Appalachian Trail Days Festival 2026

Our team traveled to Damascus, Virginia, for the annual Appalachian Trail Days Festival 2026, the town’s biggest event of the year. Every spring, thousands of hikers, outdoor enthusiasts, and brands gather to celebrate the Appalachian Trail and the vibrant hiking community. As one of the premier outdoor festivals and expos in the country, Trail Days was the perfect opportunity to showcase Topo Athletic.

We attended the festival to support one of our retail partners, Damascus Outfitter, alongside members of the Topo Athletic marketing team.

Damascus Outfitter

Located at approximately mile marker 470.7 northbound on the Appalachian Trail, Damascus Outfitter is a locally owned hiking and backpacking shop in the heart of downtown Damascus. Founded by the owner of Adventure Damascus Bicycles & Sundog Outfitter, the store serves hikers exploring some of Southwest Virginia’s most iconic destinations, including Whitetop Mountain and Mount Rogers.

Appalachian Trail Days Festival 2026

Our team set up the booth on Thursday before welcoming hikers and festival attendees from Friday through Sunday. Throughout the weekend, we helped visitors find the right trail shoe by fitting them in several Topo Athletic models, including the Pursuit, Traverse, Terraventure, Ultraventure, and Vista. We also brought a demo fleet of the Vista, giving hikers the chance to test the shoe before hitting the trail.

Many of our trail shoes have earned loyal followings on the Appalachian Trail, and several have appeared on hikers’ annual “Top 10” gear lists. This year, we noticed a growing number of hikers wearing—or asking specifically about—the MTN Racer and Vista.

The MTN Racer, now in its fourth generation, continues to build a dedicated following among experienced trail runners and thru-hikers alike. Meanwhile, although the Vista had been on the market for only about a year, hikers consistently praised its plush cushioning and all-day comfort. Based on the feedback we heard throughout the weekend, don’t be surprised if both models earn spots on the 2026 “Top 10” gear lists.

Hearing Directly from Hikers

One of the most rewarding parts of Trail Days is connecting directly with the people who rely on our shoes every day. Whether the feedback is positive or constructive, every conversation helps us build better products. We share those insights with our product development team so future versions continue to improve.

There’s nothing quite like watching a hiker’s face light up when they slip into a shoe that feels just right. By the time hikers reach Damascus, they’ve already logged nearly 470 miles on their northbound Appalachian Trail journey. Comfortable, reliable footwear isn’t just a luxury at that point—it’s essential.

Why Great Footwear Matters

Few pieces of gear matter more than your shoes. When your feet hurt or your footwear causes blisters or injuries, every mile becomes more difficult, and your thru-hike can quickly turn into a struggle. The right shoes allow hikers to focus on the experience instead of the discomfort.

That’s why it means so much when hikers choose Topo Athletic for one of the most memorable adventures of their lives. We never take that trust for granted, and we’re grateful to play a small role in helping them reach their destination.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Damascus, Virginia, plan your trip during the Appalachian Trail Days Festival. It’s an unforgettable celebration of the hiking community and one of the best ways to experience the culture surrounding the Appalachian Trail.

If you’re a retailer interested in carrying Topo Athletic, we’d love to connect. Reach out to learn how we can help support your business and your customers.
